January 10, 2003
With snow on the ground, it's hard to believe it's time to think about outdoor tennis and getting ready for the new season.
The annual meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2003. Please remember that renewal forms with dues and unpaid charges must be received by the Club by March 1, not by the date of the annual meting as in prior years. Please submit renewals or resignations as early as possible to assist the Membership Committee in filling vacancies.
We are very pleased that the regular staff will once again be joining us in the new season.
The New Members' reception will be held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, May 4th. Save the date. If you are sponsoring a new member, plan to be present to introduce the new member.
Concerning finances, we did well for three years, showing generous surpluses in each year. Our luck changed, however, in 2002 and we showed a deficit of slightly more than $8,000. In addition, the rent we will pay the Skating Club for 2003 is going up $9,000. Needless to say, this means that dues and initiation fees will have to be raised. (They have not been raised since 2000.)
This year two of our officers, including myself, will "retire" and the terms of two of our Governors will expire. Our Nonimating Committee has come up with a slate of able replacements. Dick Harter, who has been Vice President for two years, has agreed to be proposed for President; Phil Crutchfield, a Board member for two years, has agreed to accept nomination for Vice President; and Ann Wyman, a member of the Board for one year, has agreed to stand for Treasurer. We are very fortunate to have such capable individuals willing to take over. Proposals for new members should be sent to Susan Mead until a new chair is elected.
If you would like more than one Club booklet, please note that on your application form.
I'll see you at the meeting on March 3rd.
