Dear Friends,

The days are growing short, the season, even shorter. Mark your calendars now for the end of season party. We will gather at the clubhouse on Sunday, November 7 from 5:30 to 7:30. And we will honor Lucy Fowler for her years of service to the Club.

I hope you have enjoyed the season of tennis now about to end. In a wet year, our staff has kept the courts in extremely good condition. Perhaps we take this condition for granted, but a lot of work goes into rebuilding and maintaining the courts. Thanks to Billy, Joe, Tom and friends. The staff has also served us well in other ways. The holiday round robins have been highlights of the season: good tennis; good food; good conversation. And the combination of volunteer organizing and solid staff work makes it all possible.

Our professionals have had a strong year. If you were here on July weekdays, you saw the Cambridge outreach program in full swing. And if you are here during weekday afternoons, you can see the many lessons given to our children. And these events are our future. Thanks to Rick and Keith.

The entrance reconstruction project - not within our control, as I think you know - has affected our full enjoyment of the clubhouse and grounds this season, and I thank you for your continued patience with the disruption.

Before closing, I pause to note the deaths of many members this year. We will pay tribute to each of them at our gathering and in our membership book.
