Hello Members,

Welcome to hopefully a terrific tennis season at the Cambridge Tennis Club. It looks like the "Snow Fairy" has departed enabling us to enjoy many warm and sunny days/evenings to play our hearts out on the tennis courts.

In that light, please join me in tipping our hats to Billy Crusco, Joe Debassio, and their team for preparing our courts and getting the tennis club open. If any changes occur which might delay our operation, i.e. bad weather I urge you check out our Website, www.cambridgetennisclub.com as another way to keep tabs on things. For those who are in front of a computer a lot I encourage you to check out the website regularly as a lot of good or changing info can be found there. I plan on communicating with you there as well. Joe DeBassio is our Webmaster and doing a great job so check it out.

You may recall that at our annual meeting it was reported that our membership numbers have declined and we have a virtual disappearance of the Waiting List. In the past this list was always a great source for summer members and often prompted many to seek full memberships.

Given these circumstances the club is offering incentives to those 35 and under to join the Club at reduced rates again. Actions are also in progress to offer Summer Memberships to members of the Skating Club. Finally, the Board of Governors is authorizing Summer Memberships to people who are not Cambridge residents. Hopefully, these steps will improve the situation however, I believe all members can play a pro-active role in this area by submitting names of potential candidates and a Letter of Referral to Gardiner Brown or Lindsey Mead Russell, Co-Chairs of the Membership Committee.

I am happy to report that the Cambridge Tennis Club raised $7,550 (over three times more than past contributions) in 2006 in support of the Community Outreach Program under the guidance of Murray Wheeler, Rick Rose, Keith Warner and the committee. I am told that the program is still in need of old racquets so if you have any to offer please contact Rick Rose directly at (617) 492-6289. Also, we are pleased to have Rick and Keith returning as Pro and Asst Pro for lessons as well as coordinate other club activities.

Our Club has already hosted its first private party and I wish to remind you that the club is available and an excellent venue for private functions. You should coordinate with the staff and Sheila Laperle to make arrangements.

Forty-four new members have been invited to join the Club this year so don't forget to come out to the New Member Reception on Sunday, May 21st at the club from 5 to 7pm and join me in welcoming them. I hope to see you all there and on the tennis courts for the best season ever.

Sincerely,

Phil Crutchfield
President
